Frill Free Zone Newsletter August 15, 2024 |
The nights are sure starting to close in, now that we're in August. The harvest moon will be showing at the end of the month, and nights are much cooler. August 15 2024This is when the harvesting of your garden kicks into full gear. You'll be out there picking, and hopefully interplanting or succession planting whenever you pull an existing crop out entirely. Things that can follow your tomatoes would be kale or cabbage, which can pretty much overwinter if you're in zone 5 or warmer. Use a cold frame for protection from the cold when it comes. Even some straw bales stacked nearby can give it a little extra protection from cold winds.While you're planning your vegetable garden layout make sure you leave a little bit of room for those kinds of structures, and especially room for wheelbarrows and anything else you'll need for access. I'm busy with my new puppy, Ash. He's going to be my service dog, so above all he needs to know about
polite walking
. When he's fully vaccinated he'll be able to go over to our local dog park to play with some friends to let off steam. Meanwhile, he's on a long line, or a leash, with me.
