Frill Free Zone Newsletter March 01, 2025 |
Spring is slow to arrive, but there are many things we can do in advance of the season to be ready when it finally gets here. March 1 2025Checking on all the materials and items you need for springtime success can be as simple as making sure that all your tools are in tip-top shape, sharpened and cleaned, ready to go. The best garden tools are only as good as the upkeep - don't be me, and leave your new garden fork in the garden, in the snow and rain. I don't know how that happened. Now I'll have to give it a quick wipe with a rag with some oil on it to preserve the wood, and make sure the metal is clean. If you plan on growing vegetables in pots do a quick inventory of the planters you have already, and what you will need in excess. If you don't have much budge, there are a myriad options that are cheap or free, such as the ideas here; recycling in the organic garden . If you need larger containers for things like potatoes, try growing them in recycled bags, like the ones potting soil or peat moss come in. These are tough plastic, which otherwise will get thrown in the landfill, so give them another life by planting
potatoes in plastic
