This is the run up to spooky season - even if you don't decorate your house to the nines with ghosts and eerie lights, you might still enjoy using corn and pumpkins on a hay bale for some seasonal porch decor.

I don't have the spoons to decorate, but I enjoy seeing what other people get up to. Some of my neighbors in the village use string to make a spiders web, and perch a giant spider in the middle, eyeing their visitors as they come up the walk.

If you need some ideas for your fall gardening you might want to get going now, as time is running out. There could be a frost in the forecast any time now, which throws a spanner in the works.

Things come to a grinding halt when it gets too cold - but there are still things happening in the house under lights, begonia propagation for one. I love Rex begonias, which have big spots, circular patterns and bright colors on the leaves. They are easy to propagate so if you need ideas for Christmas gifts for the gardeners in your family, now is the time to start so they'll be ready in time.
