September is just around the corner, and there is some urgency to get some of those projects completed before the winter storms show up. While we have good weather, we'll be getting the garden shipshape, and probably plant some overwintering crops. Kale was the best thing to happen in the winter, so that's going to be top of the list. September 1 2024If you wanted, other greens could fill in among the beds with some room left, while you wait for the carrots to finish and the tomatoes to ripen. Those Roma paste tomatoes are my all time favorite, although sometimes they need some help to ripen . Last fall I had whole windowsills full of ripening tomatoes, but they don't actually need light to ripen.The old window greenhouse is coming along nicely, with a few false starts and plot twists along the way. If you're like us, there are going to be field adjustments at various stages. It's important to view ahead, to make sure that the decision you make today won't make it into a total disaster at a later date. Ash is now 16 weeks old, and is approved to go out into the public, and also go to the dog park, which is moments away from our house. The barking and biting have subsided, and his true lovely gentle nature is emerging. If you have a puppy, you'll know how important the early training is. Even things like capturing a 'sit' or 'down' can mean the difference between a wild creature rampaging through your house and a well behaved little fur baby. If they are still biting, here's some ideas on how to
teach a puppy not to bite
. As always, gentle is the key, so as not to create a backlash. Puppies will learn to be gentle in time, but it's better to teach it early.
